News Education Department reviewing campus sex assault rules

by Michael Perkins

Biden has said he will reverse DeVos’s rules “in their entirety.” The department said it will hold a public hearing on the proposed rules in October, with a final decision expected by Nov. 1. It also said it would consider comments from the public by email on the proposed changes before issuing official notice of its intent to make them official. The department’s action comes as colleges across the country are under intense scrutiny for how they handle sexual harassment and assault allegations on campus . Some schools are facing lawsuits or federal investigations over their handling of such cases, while others have overhauled policies in recent months in response to criticism from lawmakers and advocates who say they are too lenient with those accused of misconduct. The change follows a lengthy review process that included input from campus victim advocates, sexual assault survivors and others. https://www.jamiliaucation.org/2019/09/jamiliaucation-reviewing-campus-sex-assault-rules/
